Senate President, Bukola Saraki and Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu

SENATOR Clifford Ordia, PDP, Edo Central said on Thursday, that if  Senate President Bukola Saraki was convicted and removed by the Code of Conduct Tribunal, CCT, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP would produce his successor.

Speaking with Vanguard, Senator Ordia who described the ongoing trial of Senator Saraki as a political persecution, said that in a true democracy, this will not  happen.

According to him, the PDP senators are waiting with keen interest as events unfold, saying that the PDP Senators have resolved to throw their weights behind the Senate President.

Senator Ordia said, “PDP will produce the next Senate President if Senate President Bukola Saraki is removed. We are behind him; what is going on at CCT is political persecution and this is not allowed in any democracy. We will win, we have the number to produce the next Senate President.

“PDP Senators are waiting with keen interest, we are solidly behind him, In a democracy, the Executive does not choose who should be the Senate President, this is what the 8th Senate has done by getting its own presiding officer. By singling out Saraki to punish is unacceptable, we will stand by him.”

Saraki on trial in Nigeria over scandal relating to the leak of 11.5 million tax documents

In Nigeria, the Panama Papers leak could be about to claim its latest high-profile victim.

Bukola Saraki, the president of the Nigerian Senate, has been caught up in the scandal relating to the leak of 11.5 million tax documents from Panamanian law firm Mossack Fonseca.

Saraki—who is currently on trial in Nigeria on charges of fraud, including false declaration of assets, all of which he denies—is accused of failing to declare at least four offshore assets listed under his wife Toyin’s name. The assets include a property in London’s plush Belgravia neighborhood, as well as two companies registered in the British Virgin Islands and a third in the Seychelles, both known tax havens, according to Nigeria’s Premium Times, a media partner in the Panama Papers investigation.

Holders of public office in Nigeria are required by law to declare their own assets, as well as those of their spouse and children under 18 years of age.

Saraki issued a statement on Monday protesting his innocence, saying that he has “fully complied with the provisions of the law” on declaration of assets. The statement said that the properties in questions were held by the family of Saraki’s wife and that “the law does not require a public officer to declare assets held by the spouse’s family.”

Combined with the ongoing fraud trial, however, the revelation is likely to heap pressure on Nigeria’s third-most powerful politician behind President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.

The All Progressives Congress politician previously served as the governor of Kwara state in west Nigeria between 2003 and 2011 before entering the Senate, the upper house of Nigeria’s National Assembly. A qualified physician and former banker, he was elected as Senate president in June 2015. The issuing of an arrest warrant for Saraki in September 2015 by Nigeria’s Code of Conduct Tribunal on 13 counts of alleged corruption was the first time in Nigerian history that a sitting Senate president had been subjected to such a warrant.

Saraki’s trial revolves around his time as Kwara state governor. Charges against him include acquiring wealth beyond his legitimate earnings and holding a foreign bank account while in public office, which violates the fifth schedule of Nigeria’s constitution.

Prosecution witness Michael Wetkas, who headed up the anti-graft agency team that investigated Saraki, said on Tuesday that Saraki had laundered money through British and U.S. bank accounts and had failed to properly declare most of his assets. According to Wetkas, Saraki’s Nigerian account had a total inflow and outflow of up to 4 billion naira ($20 million) between 2005 and 2013, AFP reported.

Following the Panama Papers leak, Nigerian civil society groups have called upon President Buhari—who has made tackling corruption a key prong of his administration—to launch a probe into Saraki and other top officials implicated by the leak. Such a probe could raise further difficult questions for Saraki and is the last thing the embattled Senate president needs.

May be a joke

A female class teacher was having a problem with a boy in her class in 3rd grade.

The boy said
"Madam, I should be in 4th grade, I'm smarter than my sister and she's in 4th grade".

The Madam had heard enough and took the boy to the principal.

The principal decided to test the boy with some questions from 4th grade
Principal: What is 3+3
Boy: 6
Principal: 6+6
Boy: 12

The boy got all questions right. The principal then told the Madam to send the boy to 4th grade immediately.

Madam decided to ask her questions and the principal agreed.

Madam: What does a cow have 4 of, that I've only 2

Boy: Legs

Madam: What is in your pants that i don't have
Boy: Pockets

Madam: What starts wit a C and ends with T, is hairy, oval, delicious and contains thin whitish liquid

Boy: Coconut

Madam: What goes in hard and then comes out soft and sticky
(The principal's eyes open really wide, but before he could stop the answer, the boy was taking charge)

Boy: Bubble gum

Madam: You stick your poles inside me. You tie me down to get me up, I get wet before you do

Boy: Tent

(The principal was looking restless)

Madam: A finger goes in me. You fiddle with me when you are bored. The best man always has me first

Boy: Wedding ring

Madam: I come in many sizes. When I'm not well, I drip. When you blow me,you feel good.

Boy: Nose

Madam: I've a stiff shaft. My tip penetrates, I come with a quiver

Boy: Arrow,

principal: Jesus,

Madam: What starts with 'F' and ends wit a 'K' and if you don't get it, you've to use your hand

Boy: Fork

Madam: What is it that all men have, it's longer in some men than others, the Pope doesn't use his and a man gives it to his wife after marriage

Boy: surname,

principal: chinekemeee,

Madam: What part of the man has no bone but has muscles with a lot of veins like pumpkin and is responsible for making love

Boy: Heart,

principal : ehhhhh,

The principal breathed a sigh of relief and said to the Madam 'Send this boy to the
University...even I myself got all answers wrong.

The best message I have read in a while

A man, an avid Gardener saw a small Butterfly laying few eggs in one of the pots in his garden.
Since that day he looked at the egg with ever growing curiosity and eagerness.
The egg started to move and shake a little.
He was excited to see a new life coming up right in front of his eyes.
He spent hours watching the egg now. The egg started to expand and develop cracks.
A tiny head and antennae started to come out ever so slowly. The man's excitement knew no bounds.
He got his magnifying glasses and sat to watch the life and body of a pupa coming out.

He saw the struggle of the tender pupa and couldn't resist his urge to "HELP".
He went and got a tender forceps to help the egg break, a nip here, a nip there to help the struggling life and the pupa was out. The man was ecstatic!
He waited now each day for the pupa to grow and fly like a beautiful butterfly, but alas that never happened.
The larvae pupa had a oversized head and kept crawling along in the pot for the full 4 weeks and died!

Depressed the man went to his botanist friend and asked the reason. His friend told him the struggle to break out of the egg helps the larvae to send blood to its wings and the head-push helps the head to remain small so that the tender wings can support it thru its 4 week life cycle. In his eagerness to help, the man destroyed a beautiful life!

Struggles help all of us, that's why a bit of effort goes a long way to develop our strength to face life's difficulties!
As parents, we sometimes go too far trying to help and protect our kids from life's harsh realities and disappointments.
We don't want our kids to struggle like we did.

Harvard psychiatrist Dr. Dan Kindlon says that over-protected children are more likely to struggle in relationships and with challenges.
We're sending our kids the message that they're not capable of helping themselves.

To quote clinical psychologist, Dr. Wendy 's Moral:
"It  is  Our Job  to  prepare  Our  Children  for  the  Road & Not  prepare  the  Road for  Our Children"

WE WILL NOT ALLOW SARAKI’s IMPEACHMENT – Senators

WE WILL NOT ALLOW SARAKI’s IMPEACHMENT – Senators

The embattled Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, got yet another lifeline in the midst of the controversies surrounding his trial before the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) as his colleagues senators rose today from a meeting and declared that they would protect the seat of the Senate President currently occupied by Saraki with the last blood in their veins.

This is not the first time the overwhelming majority of senators have lined-up their support for Saraki on the ongoing trial before the CCT.

Arising from a meeting at the Asokoro residence of Sen. Magartarkada Wammako, the Senator representing Sokoto Central Senatorial District, the Senators said for whatever it is worth, they would continue to stand firmly behind Dr. Saraki and ensure that his Senate Presidency seat is protected.

While addressing the media in Abuja on Wednesday on behalf of other senators, Senator Ibrahim Abdulrafiu reiterated their earlier stance that Saraki’s trial was a ‘mere persecution’ and an attempt to tarnish his image in ways not experienced before.

“We have since discovered that the trial of the Senate President is a mere attempt to blackmail him and make him look bad in the court of public opinion. No more, no less. A dispassionate analysis of the proceeding of the CCT yesterday has pointed to the fact that the Federal Government is still embittered against Dr. Saraki over the manner of his election as the Senate President.”

“This is why we are standing for the Senate President and we will so do till the very end. We are doing this not for him but for the institution of the Senate that he imminently represents. We will never allow any arm of government to rubbish the cherished autonomy of the Senate.”
However, commenting on the calls in some quarters that the Senate President should resign from his position, the senators insisted that the calls are borne out of ignorance and pure hatred. The Senators described the calls as ‘wicked and unfounded.’

“For those calling for the impeachment of the Senate President, we urge them to avail themselves of the provisions of the law relating to such a sensitive step. As far as we are concerned, there is nothing like that on the table, and if anybody is trying to import that from the outside of the Senate, God helps them. All I know is that they will have to produce as many as a 100 senators to achieve that aim. As long as they don’t have the majority, the call is a tall dream that will remain a figment of the imagination of the groups and their sponsors.”

You need enemies

While I was pondering about life, I discovered that:
.
Sometimes, to succeed in life you need ENEMIES! Yes!
.
You need people who will mock you, so that you can run to God. You need people who will try to intimidate you, so that you can be courageous.
.
You need people who will say "NO" so that you can learn how to be independent...I mean how to do it yourself.
.
You need people who will disappoint you so that you can put all your trust in God alone.
.
You need people who will work towards you loosing that job, so that you can start your own big business.
.
You need people who will sell your 'Joseph' so that 'he' can get to Egypt.
.
You need a cruel landlord, so that you won't be too comfortable in someone else's house, then you can build your own house on time.
.
But sometimes, when we are disappointed, we feel very bad and we tend to remain on that spot. Not knowing that the end-point of disappointment is the beginning of your accomplishments.
.
Understand this, "that every disappointment you once had came with a blessing!" However, it is not everyone that partakes in this blessing that I'm talking about.
.
You cannot see a new OPEN door while you are still putting all your attention, time and energy in trying to force the closed one to open.
.
And again I say, "No disappointment can ever come without an attached blessing!" So, when the disappointment come, thank God for it and tell "HIM" to open your eyes to see the new blessing that HE has for you!
.
Disappointment is PHASE1...while accomplishment is PHASE2...I doubt if you can jump the protocols.
.
That is why it is called BREAKTHROUGH Something must BREAK so that you can go THROUGH!.

Stay with us.

To all mum in the world

To all the researchers in the house.... Senior. .. Executive. .... and Associates

A woman, renewing her driver's licence ,
was asked by the woman at Registry to state her occupation.

She hesitated, uncertain how to classify herself.

'What I mean is, ' explained the woman at Registry,
'do you have a job or are you just a ...?'

'Of course I have a job,' snapped the woman.

'I'm a Mum.'

'We don't list 'Mum' as an occupation,
'housewife' covers it,'
Said the recorder emphatically.

I forgot all about her story until one day I found myself
in the same situation.
The Clerk was obviously a career woman, poised,
efficient, and possessed of a high sounding title like,
'Official Interrogator' or 'City Registrar.'

'What is your occupation?' she probed.

What made me say it? I do not know.
The words simply popped out.
'I'm a Research Associate in the field of
Child Development and Human Relations.'

The clerk paused, ball-point pen frozen in midair and
looked up as though she had not heard right.

I repeated the title slowly emphasizing the most significant words.
Then I stared with wonder as my pronouncement was written,
in bold, black ink on the official questionnaire.

'Might I ask,' said the clerk with new interest,
'just what you do in your field?'

Coolly, without any trace of fluster in my voice,
I heard myself reply,
'I have a continuing program of research,
(what mother doesn't)
In the laboratory and in the field,
(normally I would have said indoors and out).
I'm working for my Masters, (first the Lord and then the whole family)
and already have four credits (all daughters).
Of course, the job is one of the most demanding in the humanities,
(any mother care to disagree?)
and I often work 14 hours a day, (24 is more like it).
But the job is more challenging than most run-of-the-mill careers
and the rewards are more of a satisfaction rather than just money.'

There was an increasing note of respect in the clerk's voice as she
completed the form, stood up, and personally ushered me to the door.

As I drove into our driveway, buoyed up by my glamorous new career,
I was greeted by my lab assistants -- ages 13, 7, and 3.
Upstairs I could hear our new experimental model,
(a 6 month old baby) in the child development program,
testing out a new vocal pattern.
I felt I had scored a beat on bureaucracy!
And I had gone on the official records as someone more
distinguished and indispensable to mankind than 'just another Mum.'
Motherhood!

What a glorious career!
Especially when there's a title on the door.

ONIONS. LEFT OVER ONIONS ARE POISONOUS

ONIONS : PLEASE READ TO THE END: IMPORTANT

In 1919 when the flu killed 40 million people there was this Doctor that visited the many farmers to see if he could help them combat the flu.. Many of the farmers and their family had contracted it and many died.

The doctor came upon this one farmer and to his surprise, everyone was very healthy. When the doctor asked what the farmer was doing that was different the wife replied that she had placed an unpeeled onion in a dish in the rooms of the home, (probably only two rooms back then). The doctor couldn't believe it and asked if he could have one of the onions and place it under the microscope. She gave him one and when he did this, he did find the flu virus in the onion. It obviously absorbed the bacteria, therefore, keeping the family healthy.

Now there is a P. S. to this for I sent it to a friend in Oregon who regularly contributes material to me on health issues. She replied with this most interesting experience about onions:

Thanks for the reminder. I don't know about the farmer's story...but, I do know that I contacted pneumonia, and, needless to say, I was very ill... I came across an article that said to cut both ends off an onion put it into an empty jar, and place the jar next to the sick patient at night. It said the onion would be black in the morning from the germs. ..sure enough it happened just like that...the onion was a mess and I began to feel better.

This is the other note.

Lots of times when we have stomach problems we don't know what to blame. Maybe it's the onions that are to blame. Onions ABSORB BACTERIA is the reason they are so good at preventing us from getting colds and flu and is the very reason we should NOT eat an onion that has been sitting for a time after it has been cut open.

LEFT OVER ONIONS ARE POISONOUS
when food poisoning is reported, the first thing the officials look for is when the 'victim' last ate ONIONS and where those onions came from (in the potato salad?). It's probably the ONIONS, and if not the onions, it's the POTATOES.

onions are a huge magnet for bacteria, especially uncooked onions. You should never plan to keep a portion of a sliced onion.it's not even safe if you put it in a zip-lock bag and put it in your refrigerator.

It's already contaminated enough just by being cut open and out for a bit, that it can be a danger to you (and doubly watch out for those onions you put in your hotdogs at the baseball park!). If you take the leftover onion and cook it like crazy you'll probably be okay, but if you slice that leftover onion and put on your sandwich, you're asking for trouble. Both the onions and the moist potato in a potato salad, will attract and grow bacteria faster than any commercial mayonnaise will even begin to break down.

Also, dogs should never eat onions. Their stomachs cannot metabolize onions.

PLEASE REMEMBER IT IS DANGEROUS TO CUT AN ONION AND TRY TO SAVE IT TO COOK WITH THE NEXT DAY, IT BECOMES HIGHLY POISONOUSFOR EVEN A SINGLE NIGHT - AS IT CREATES TOXIC BACTERIA WHICH CAUSES ADVERSE STOMACH INFECTIONS BECAUSE OF EXCESS BILE SECRETIONS AND EVEN FOOD POISONING.

My dear Rotary friends,

Every year, Rotary’s Presidential Citation program helps Rotary clubs around the world focus their efforts and achieve more in their service.

This year, for the first time, the Presidential Citation was data-driven: we asked you to increase membership, contribute to The Rotary Foundation, and to use online tools such as Rotary Club Central and Rotary Showcase to report your accomplishments throughout the year.

As a result, clubs have been able to monitor their own progress via their club dashboards, and we at RI have been able to see that progress as well.

The purpose of the Citation is to honor the efforts of the many clubs who have worked so hard toward their Rotary goals this year. Seeing how many of you have made great strides in your service, without reaching every goal needed to achieve a Citation, I sought a way to recognize that work as well.

As a result, I am pleased to announce that this year, the Citation will be modified and issued in three levels: Gold, Silver, and Bronze. The Gold citation will recognize those who met the high bar of all seven goals; Silver citations will go to those who have achieved six goals, and Bronze will go to those who have attained five (including, in all cases, the mandatory goals).

No action is needed on the part of any club at this point; the citation results are now being tabulated here in Evanston from the data that has already been collected online.

I hope as we look to the last three months of our term that you will not slow in your efforts or in your service. The true rewards for Rotary endeavors, of course, do not come from Evanston: they come from the satisfactions of service well delivered, and the knowledge that our clubs have been A Gift to the World.

Sincerely,
K.R. Ravindran
President, Rotary International 2015-16

THE VICTORY SHOUT.RHAPSODY OF REALITIES TUESDAY, 5TH DAY.

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES TUESDAY, 5TH DAY.

THE VICTORY SHOUT.

Listen to the glad shouts of victory in the tents of God’s people: The LORD’s mighty power has done it! (Psalm 118:15 GNB).

Chapter six of the Book of Joshua tells us how the walls of Jericho fell down flat for the children of Israel to go in and take over the city. They didn’t need cranes or heavy duty equipment to crumble the walls; they did it with a shout! Read the inspiring account in Joshua 6:2-5; they had wanted to go into Jericho, but the wall prevented them, for they were too high and too thick. However, God gave them an instruction. He didn’t instruct them to pray, or beg. All He asked them to do was to march round the wall without saying anything, and then give a shout at the appointed time. What followed was breathtaking: the walls fell down, flat.

There’s something about our shout in the Holy Ghost; it’s not ordinary. When people haven’t received the Holy Spirit, that’s when things like this mystify them. If you go to a Church where they never shout, something is surely missing: it’s the power of the Holy Ghost, because once the Holy Ghost gets anywhere, the shout of a king is there; He
announces His presence.

Recall what happened on the day of Pentecost: the day the Holy Spirit began His dispensation with the Church. The Bible says, “And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting” (Acts 2:2). Notice the description: the sound was as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. The Holy Spirit announced His presence with a loud sound! Were they quiet afterwards? No! Acts 2:4 says, “And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.”

When the Holy Ghost comes into your life, irrespective of how quietly you were born, it makes no difference; you can’t be quiet anymore. I don’t mean to say you become loquacious; I’m talking about the power of the Spirit stirred in you to shout and affirm the Word with boldness. It’s not a shout of pandemonium, or fright, but the shout of a king; the victory shout!

PRAYER
Dear Father, thanks be unto you, for always leading me in triumph in Christ, and manifesting through me the sweet aroma of your knowledge in every place. Christ lives in me, and He’s my all. Thank you for making me a testimony of your abundant grace, and unending love, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

FURTHER STUDY:
Psalm 20:5 GNB Then we will shout for joy over your victory and celebrate your triumph by praising our God. May the Lord answer all your requests.

2 Chronicles 20:21-22 And when he had consulted with the people, he appointed singers unto the LORD, and that should praise the beauty of holiness, as they went out before the army, and to say, Praise the LORD; for his mercy endureth for ever. 22 And when they began to sing and to praise, the LORD set ambushments against the children of Ammon, Moab, and mount Seir, which were come against Judah; and they were smitten.

1 Corinthians 15:57 But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Nigeria Federal government returns petrol subsidy

FG returns petrol subsidy, retains official pump prices - Punch

April 3, 2016

Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Ibe Kachikwu

Okechukwu Nnodim

The Federal Government on Saturday recommenced the payment of subsidy on petrol as it subsidised the commodity by N5.84 for every litre of premium motor spirit consumed in Nigeria.

Subsidy on petrol was stopped in January after the review of the pricing template of the product by the government.

It also announced that the current official pump prices of petrol would remain at N86 per litre when purchased at filling stations run by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation and N86.5 per litre when sold at outlets operated by other oil marketers.

The government further said petrol scarcity would end in a few days, but was silent on the specific day or date.

Figures from the latest pricing templates of the Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency released on Saturday, showed that the Federal Government was paying N5.84 as subsidy on every litre of petrol sold at non-NNPC filling stations.

The PPPRA is the agency of the Federal Government that regulates the prices of white products — petrol and kerosene, across the country.

According to the agency, the Expected Open Market Price of petrol for non-NNPC stations as at April 2, 2016, was N92.34 per litre, against an official pump price of N86.5 per litre, leaving an under-recovery or subsidy of N5.84 per litre.

Similarly, the template for NNPC-run stations showed that the government was paying N5.80 per litre as subsidy, as the EOMP for outlets in this category was N91.80 per litre as against an official rate of N86 per litre.

The EOMP is the actual cost of petrol without subsidy and comprises of the landing cost of the product as well as its subtotal margins like transporters charge, admin fee, dealers cost, bridging fund, etc.

On the retained pump price of petrol, the Acting Executive Secretary, PPPRA, Mrs. Sotonye Iyoyo, said, “The agency is retaining the retail prices of N86.00 for the NNPC, and N86.50 for the other marketing companies. The pump price of household kerosene also remains unchanged from what it was in the last quarter.

“Therefore, marketers are advised to ensure that there is no price distortion in their respective retail outlets. PPPRA, however, shall continue to monitor the global oil market performances, and come up, at appropriate time, with reasonable changes consistent with the newly-adopted price modulation principles.”

On news making the rounds that the agency was planning to increase the petrol price, Iyoyo urged members of the public to ignore such rumour, as prevailing market indicators do not support such.

She also called on motorists to desist from panic-buying, stressing that “PPPRA was working hard with other sister-organisations to ensure that the current supply and distribution challenges were resolved within the coming days.”

Meanwhile, the agency stated that it had released the second quarter allocations for the supply of petrol, based on the approval of the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu.

It said, “In the latest release, the apex national oil company, the NNPC, has 41.74 per cent of the total allocation, while the rest of the oil marketing companies got a total allocation of 58.27 per cent
